Originally from Japan, Yasuaki Okamoto lived in London, Barcelona, Granada and Montreal before settling down in New York, where he is currently based.
His artwork exhibits a kind of surrealism that incorporates fauna, flora and everyday objects sometimes appearing as icons of a death, life, and/or nature, inspired by his interest in the ecology of living things.
He was awarded the Yasuo Kuniyoshi Printmaking Award 2018, The Edward G. McDowell Travel Grant 2014, The Xavier Gonzalez and Ethel Edwards Travel Grant 2013, The Lawrence Littman Scholarship 2012, Mary Birmingham Award 2010 and many more.
